Dear Teachers

We are a purpose built visitor centre tailored to meet modern educational needs and we are open for school visits from 7th May 2007!

Land: Healthy Schools

Eco-Park has two main areas: Land and Evolution of the Planet.  The three main features of ‘Land’ will be healthy eating, sustainable farming and recycling. Children will discover where our food comes from and how it grows through a variety of rides and hands on experiences. They will pick, prepare and cook a variety of foods in the ‘cook it yourself’ restaurant. Interactive, live shows in the big barn theatre; baking activities; pottery painting; a supermarket experience and a tractor ride are just some of the other attractions on offer to school groups.  The Land area also houses the Gulliver’s recycling factory which not only provides recycling facilities for the park, but functions as another ‘hands on’ attraction.

Evolution: Adaptation and Interdependence

‘Evolution’ introduces children to the fascinating changes that have happened on Earth since the beginning of time: this includes the captivating subject of dinosaurs! Children will experience three major periods of pre-history through fun, hands-on activities that stimulate all the senses.  They will gain first hand experience of the work of a paleontologist as they dig for fossils, classify and log them in the bone yard. They will be able to climb the ice age wall, find out how animals developed the ability to fly and take the tree tops trail to find out how prehistoric animals compare with modern wildlife. We also have over 30 life-sized museum quality models of prehistoric animals and several rides for the children to go on.

Eco-Park: Sustainable Education

Eco-Park has been built using many sustainable methods such as solar panels, natural air conditioning, sustainable materials, grey water toilets etc. There are activities available for the children to do if you wish for this to be the focus (or part of the focus) of your visit.  There is also a lake with naturally occurring wildlife in the ‘water’ area and fantastic grounds for the children to explore during their visit.

We offer many excellent opportunities for you to enhance your children’s learning with a quality day out!
